The Red Umbrella

There are many beliefs in the Chinese customs, and sometimes, some doesn’t even know what are the meaning behind the various ‘props’ that are layered in red. One of these will be the Red Umbrella.

It is believed that as the Bride leave her house (出阁), the father of the Bride or an elder male should hold the umbrella to shelter the Bride so as to ward off any evil elements/spirits. In some dialect group, there is also the scattering of the rice grains (to attract the golden chicken)
